Mr. Smith's year 5/6 class from Queensland, Australia spent the night at school meeting people all around the world via Skype. My 3rd graders played their first Mystery Skype with them.

Today was our first Skype call with Maria from Wondergrove! My 3rd graders were so surprised when Maria spoke to them and even congratulated them on a few things they had achieved since the beginning of the school year. She challenged them to complete all the given tasks in 4 weeks - before our next call on Monday, November 30th when she will be presenting the learning certificates to the ones who fulfilled the challenge! Today we met new friends from Mr. Colleran's class. They live in Galway, located on the west coast by the Atlantic Ocean. Their school is in the countryside about 15 miles outside the city. We learned about a sport the students like playing - HURLING. To find out more about Mr. Colleran's class visit their website: www.craughwellns.scoilnet.ie. Yesterday was a special day - not because it was Valentine's Day, but because the III/3 class made new friends - Mr.McKenzie's class from New Dundee, Ontario, Canada. Here is their teacher's blog. It was also our first time using Google Hangouts in class since we have only been using Skype for practicing English with our peers. We learnt that their school has 11 classes, that their school mascot is a dragon and that they like watching the Winter Olympics and playing hockey. The internet connection was bad so we couldn't see the snow outside, in their schoolyard but they told us it was below -20 degrees. Here in Serbia, we had almost spring temperature, very unusual for mid-February, it was +18 degrees. Here is Iva reading a poem "Luba's crazy restaurant" to Mr.McKenzie's class.
